5 Questions with Hero Award Winner Pat Gatewood

Posted by Enlivant support center on May 8, 2017
At Enlivant’s Preston Place in Sherman, TX, Patricia Gatewood is known as “mama” to her coworkers because she cares about them as much as she does for the residents. It’s no surprise to those who know her that Patricia was honored by Argentum with a 2017 Hero Award, as well as one of Enlivant’s 2016 Mission-Vision-Values (MVV) Award winners.

We asked Pat five questions about being an Argentum Hero Award winner and her work as a Resident Care Partner. Here’s what she had to say:

1. What made you want to join the Enlivant team?

I joined Preston Place going on four years ago after I moved my in- laws into the community. I loved it so much, I knew I wanted to become part of the team.

2. What does the Argentum Hero Award mean to you?

It is such a huge honor. I never thought anything like this would happen to me. It’s crazy.

3. What brings you the biggest joy about your job?

My residents, the people I take care of, bring me the greatest joy at work. I think the most important you can do to help the residents is just by being there for them and interacting with them. I love to have one-on-one time with them, and really listen to them.

4. Can you share a funny or touching story about a resident that stands out to you?

My most memorable resident was Betty, who passed away a year ago. Betty had not left her room in a year. Once I got to know her, she did not want anyone else to take care of her, and I got her to come out of her room when no one else could. I will never forget Betty.

5. What advice would you share with other senior living community professionals?

My advice to others would be to always be positive, and always come in with a smile on your face. It will make a huge difference to the seniors you care for.

Congrats Pat on your accomplishments! We are so proud of you and the many Enlivant employees whose compassion and hard work improves the lives of seniors.
