Meet our PETember Contest Winners: Bernie & Ginger

Throughout the month of September, we hosted our first PETember Photo Contest. Residents from across the Enlivant family submitted photos of their four-legged friends. Then we asked the public to vote on their favorite.
The duo with the most votes (nearly 500 of them!) was Bernie Menningan and his 14-year old Shih Tzu, Ginger, of Taylor Place in Findlay, OH.
We asked Bernie to tell us more about his pup and their special bond. Read on here.
How long have you had Ginger?
14 years.
What’s your pet’s personality like?
She doesn’t know a stranger and is a friend to everyone.
What does Ginger do that makes you laugh?
She never fetches after anything that is thrown.
Does your pet have any tricks?
Ginger can stand on her hind legs and walk and can do a full spin around (for a treat of course!) She loves entertaining the staff and residents at Taylor Place with all her tricks.
Favorite memory with your pet?
When my son was getting deployed my wife was having a very hard time with him leaving, so my son said, “Mom you need to get a dog to take care of while I am gone.” We went down and found Ginger and brought her home. This cheered my wife up and helped her get through my son’s deployment.
What is Ginger’s favorite thing to do at Enlivant?
Going out to the courtyard and taking walks around the building to visit other residents.
What’s your favorite thing to do with Ginger?
Take naps and sleep with Ginger by my side.
What does your pet bring to your life?
Ginger is always there to greet me when I wake up in the morning. She makes every day special for me and gives me a reason to get out of bed every day.
